Dr. P.V. Bahekar,I/c Head, Department of Applied Mechanics
Dear Friends,
The Applied Mechanics Department of Government Polytechnic, Khamgaon, caters to both Civil and Mechanical Engineering programmes, delivering key subjects from the MSBTE K-Scheme syllabus such as Engineering Mechanics (312312), Strength of Materials (313308), Concrete Technology (313322), Geotechnical Engineering (314315), Theory of Structures (315313), and electives like Repairs and Maintenance of Structures and Design of RCC and Steel Structures. The department is equipped with comprehensive laboratory facilities including Universal Testing Machine, simple machine models, concrete cube/cylinder molds with curing tanks, slump cone and compaction factor apparatus, sieve shakers, IS sieves, Proctor compaction set, liquid and plastic limit apparatus, shear strength testing equipment, permeability apparatus, rebound hammer, ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV) tester, chloride penetration tester, core cutter, Los Angeles abrasion testing machine, Vicat’s apparatus, laboratory ovens, and other advanced testing instruments, etc. The department also undertakes consultancy services such as material testing — including compression testing of concrete/masonry, tensile testing of steel reinforcement, aggregate impact and abrasion tests, Los Angeles abrasion tests, and cement tests for fineness, standard consistency, setting time, soundness, and compressive strength — along with structural audits and structural design scrutiny. Through these academic and consultancy activities, the department has developed competencies in structural analysis, material characterisation, geotechnical evaluation, concrete mix design, non-destructive testing (NDT), quality control, structural health assessment, and rehabilitation planning. These initiatives not only strengthen industry–institute collaboration but also generate Internal Revenue Generation (IRG) for the institute while providing students valuable exposure to real-world engineering practices, ensuring they graduate as technically competent, industry-ready professionals capable of contributing to sustainable infrastructure development.
Thank you!
